Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle and subtle treatment focused on the bones of the skull and sacrum.

In the early 1900's Dr William Sutherland discovered that the bones of the head moved in a rhythm and should sit gently against each other. His research showed that these movements and positions were linked with the mental and emotional health of the patient.  Restriction of the movement and malpositioning of the bones resulted in a reduction of the body's natural ability to self-heal and in some cases caused dysfunctional behaviours and pain.

Craniosacral – Babies and small childrencranial sacral for babies

During the labour and birthing process, babies are very compressed which can lead to malpositioning of their skeleton and especially the soft bones of their skull.  Caesarean births and those involving forceps or suction are even more likely to lead to dysfunctional symptoms.  These symptoms may appear soon after birth: colic, poor feeding, disturbed sleep patterns or constant distress.  Some may not become apparent until later years: slow to crawl, poor walking or running gait, lack of co-ordination or poor concentration.

Many parents are relieved and amazed that this gentle treatment can bring about dramatic changes in their child's behaviour, often achieved in just 2 or 3 sessions.  Many children are brought for treatment on a 'maintenance basis' to help them function at their optimum, by resolving any malpositioning that may have occurred from the 'normal' knocks and bumps of growing up.
